Congratulations on getting a remote work job! There are tons of benefits to working remotely, like flexible schedules, no commute, and more freedom.
However, there is definitely a change in lifestyle that comes with remote work. While it’s often a good change, it can be challenging to know what you need and where to start.
I’ve been working remotely for over 8 years, and I created this resource to be a complete guide to the products that are essential to boost productivity, increase comfort, and minimize some of the challenges that come with being a remote worker.
Setting up a remote workspace is an essential first step. This determines where and how you work and allows you to create an office space that fits your life. I’ve found two products to be essential for any remote workspace:
- Desk: It’s so important to have a dedicated space to work. A desk gives you a place to “go to work” and “leave work” when you’re done for the day. It also determines how much space you have for other remote work products.
- My favorite desk is the FLEXISPOT Adjustable Desk. It’s 48 x 30 inches, which is the perfect size for most remote workers. This desk is adjustable, so you can sit, stand, or rotate between the two as you work.
- Chair: Whether you have a sit-stand desk or not, you’ll want a place to sit. Choosing a good chair that fits with your desk is super important for back support, comfort, and productivity. If you typically stand at an adjustable desk, a stool is also a good option.
- I love the Gabrylly Office Chair. It has great back support and is very comfortable! It’s mesh on the seat and the back, which really makes it stand out from other office chairs. The armrests can also fold up so it’s easier to move and store!
These products are typically what comes to mind when you think about remote work. A monitor, keyboard, and mouse are pretty basic remote work products, so it’s important to choose the right ones for you.
- Monitor: I recommend getting an extra monitor because having multiple screens helps you be more productive and efficient. Our post on Buying a Remote Work Monitor: 5 Important Things to Know will help you choose the best monitor for your space.
- Keyboard & Mouse: Logitech has tons of great keyboard and mouse options that are both high quality and affordable.
- The Logitech MK270 Keyboard Mouse Combo Set is budget friendly, wireless, and durable.
- If you’re looking for the best quality keyboard and mouse, the Logitech MX Series has tons of great choices for various sizes and styles. My favorites are the Logitech MX Keys Mini Keyboard and the Logitech MX Master 3 Mouse. While these are higher in price, they’re both amazing quality and will last for years.
Audio & Video
As a remote worker, you’re probably going to be part of some video calls and virtual meetings.
- Webcam: Laptop cameras just don’t provide good video like a webcam. You don’t need to choose a fancy, expensive camera, but even something as simple as the Anker C300 Webcam will make a huge difference in upgrading your video quality. It’s often available for under $100, and provides crisp, clear videos, even in low lighting.
- Microphone: Like laptop cameras, the microphone on your laptop isn’t ideal for frequent virtual meetings. I recommend the Blue Yeti Nano Microphone. It provides high-quality sound, which is one of the most important things you need to communicate in virtual meetings.
- Headset: In addition to a microphone, speakers are important for audio quality on video calls. However, I don’t always recommend large external speakers for remote workers. Instead, I suggest a good quality headset. This provides better audio quality for you because it blocks external noises, and many headsets also have the option to use an attached microphone.
- If you’re looking for one that’s budget friendly, with good audio and an attached microphone, the Logitech H390 Headset is the best choice for you. It has a 10-ft cable that can connect to your computer and will provide a better audio and microphone quality than the ones included in your laptop.
- If you want a really high-quality headset that’s perfect for remote work, I recommend the Razer Barracuda X. It’s one of the best headsets available! While it was originally designed for gamers, this headset has a streamlined, wireless design, which makes it a great choice for remote workers too. It has excellent speakers for virtual meetings or listening to music while you work, and a microphone that can easily attach to and detach from the headset. The microphone is very high quality, and I’ve hosted several livestreams with the Razer Barracuda X as my microphone.
As a remote worker, your office space is often a guest bedroom or corner of the kitchen, and it may not have ideal light for video calls. It can be difficult to present yourself well when half your face is covered by a shadow, or the lighting is all dim. Thankfully, there are some great, simple options that can easily improve your lighting.
- Windows: If you have the option to move your desk to face a window, the sunlight from outside will provide clear, natural light, which helps you look better and doesn’t cost anything!
- Lights: If positioning your desk that way isn’t an option, or if the window doesn’t have good lighting, there are some other products that can light up your workspace.
- The Logitech LitraGlow can rest on top of your monitor, next to your webcam, and it’s a great, portable lighting solution. If you want to work from a coffeeshop or another space, having a portable light is really nice.
- For something a little more upscale, the LumeCube Edge Lights mount on the wall in front of you and they help create an amazing, full lighting setup. I recommend getting at least two, so you can mount one to the left of you and one to the right, to give evenly balanced lighting that’s not shining directly at your face.
If you want to light up something in the background (like a whiteboard, demonstration, shelf, etc), rather than your face, Govee **link** has a huge variety of string lights, lamps, and even smart lights that can change color! Their products are a really fun addition to your office.
There are tons of different options for power strips! Beyond the kids of power strips most people think of, with six outlets and a three-foot-long cord, there are options to plug directly into your wall, or have a longer cord, and some even offer up to eight or twelve outlets. Many power strips are also equipped with USB-C and USB-A ports, which can be really helpful for plugging in all your remote work devices.

- Power Strip: One of my favorites is the EchoGear Power Strip, which has a nice standard design, with 8 outlets and 2 USB ports.
- Charger: I also love the Spruce Charger. It’s an excellent choice for charging both your phone and multiple devices, like tablets, laptops, and monitors, at your desk! It has an innovate design, and while it’s not a traditional power strip, this charger is designed to provide just the right amount of power to up to 5 devices at once.

As a remote worker, you’ll need a good place to take notes, write down ideas, and keep track of your schedule. The Rocketbook is one of my favorite notebooks for remote workers, because it offers an innovative combination of physical notebooks and digital notes.
- Rocketbook: You can write on your Rocketbook with any Pilot Frixion Pen, then open the Rocketbook App on your phone and simply snap a photo in the app! It will save the photo, then take all the text you wrote, transcribe it, and send it to your email, Google Drive, Microsoft One Drive, Microsoft OneNote, a slack channel, Evernote, and lots of other platforms on your device!
- Erase: Then, simply use the included Rocketbook Cloth to erase your notepad and reuse it over and over again!
- Search: Once you’ve uploaded your notes to the Rocketbook App, you can look back and easily access all your past notes. There’s even a search feature, so rather than flipping through an 80- or 100-page notebook to find your notes about a specific topic, you can simply open the app and search your handwritten notes for keywords!
There are lots of styles and choices for a Rocketbook, like the Dot-Grid Legal Pad, Multi-Subject Notebook, and Everyday Planner! I have the Fusion Notebook, and it’s been a game changer for me in the way I take notes!
My favorite printer is the HP 4155e because it prints in really high quality, it’s easy to set up, and very affordable.
- Paper: For printing, I really like Hammermill Paper. I buy it in bulk to save time and money, and I never have to worry about running out of paper!
I’m a big fan of shredding paper! I even wrote a blog post about it: Best Paper Shredder – Buyer’s Guide.
- Shredder: My top pick for a remote work paper shredder is the BONSEN 8-sheet Shredder. It’s powerful enough to shred mail, bank statements, and even thicker materials like credit cards.
One of the biggest perks of being a remote worker is that you can work from anywhere! Most people work from their home office the majority of the time, but it can be nice to get a change of scenery, like a coffeeshop or co-working space. That’s why having a nice backpack to bring your laptop and other essentials is really helpful when you’re working remotely.
- Backpack: I highly recommend the Volher Laptop Backpack. I often use it to bring my laptop and devices when I travel or work from different locations. It has lots of pockets and plenty of room to bring some books or a water bottle too.
We all know it’s important to stay hydrated, but as a remote worker, it can be especially difficult to remember to drink water. Staying hydrated prevents tiredness, boosts your mood, and improves the health of your whole body.
- Mug: My favorite way to stay hydrated is with the Yeti Rambler Mug, because it’s sturdy, durable, and dishwasher safe! It comes in a ton of different colors, and sizes. I have the 14oz mug, which is a little shorter and looks like a coffee mug, with its side handle and insulated design. It’s great for coffee, hot cocoa, water, or even soup.
- Water Bottle: I also have the 18oz Yeti Rambler, which is a taller design, shaped more like a water bottle. This one fits in most cupholders and backpack pockets, and has a chug cap lid, which makes it great for on the go.
As a remote worker, you get to control the temperature of your office! No more sweating or freezing in a big office building ;) Since you’ll be in your home office space almost every day, you want to make sure the temperature is as comfortable as possible for you while you work.
- Fan: The first thing you’ll need is a fan. I suggest choosing one like Tower Fan, because it’s simple, efficient, and keeps the whole room cool.
- There are also some desk fans, like the 6″ Clip Fan, which would be a great option for remote work as well.
- Heater: A small space heater can make a huge difference in your remote work office. It’s especially nice if you live in a place where it gets cold in the winter months.
- I have the Dreo Space Heater, which is great for warming up my office space and monitoring the temperature so it’s comfortable.
- Thermostat: You can also upgrade the temperature control in your entire house with a new thermostat!
- The Amazon Smart Thermostat is a simple solution that works great and is very affordable.
- If you want something on the higher end, the Ecobee Smart Thermostat has a lot of great features and integrates seamlessly with your other smart home devices.
- Both of those Smart Thermostats also have the ability to connect with Alexa, so you can monitor and control the temperature of your home with your Amazon Alexa devices! I’ve really enjoyed being able to use voice commands to change the temperature in my house.

One more important note: you don’t need to buy everything on this list as soon as you become a remote worker.
- Start at the top of the list with a desk and chair, and over the course of weeks, months, or years, you can slowly add to your remote work setup.
